  Hokenson J

My name is John Hokenson and I am the principal of Rosendale Primary School and Rosendale Intermediate School. My wife and I both work for the District and all of our children attend or have graduated from our schools, so as you can imagine I have a huge stake in sustaining and fostering an excellent education for all of the students in our district. I am very proud of what we have and that we are always trying to improve.

This school, Rosendale Primary, is responsible for getting our children off to a great start in their educations. Our focus for these youngsters is fourfold, learning to be great citizens, learning to read, learning to write, and learning to make sense of mathematics. We have strong foundational strategies we employ to create situations that make this possible. All of our teachers have specifically chosen this age group as the children they most love to work with. They are continually trying new strategies and attending classes and workshops to improve. It is an honor to work with them and if your child is in one of their classes, I know you will feel the same way.

In our school we believe in encouraging student decision making. Whether it is recess or an academic project, we want the students to determine how hard they will work and how they will work and play with others. Much like adult life, good choices are rewarded, poor choices are not.

Like my staff, this is the age group I chose to be with. All student ages are unique and have appealing aspects, but elementary students bring an honesty and sincerity that can not be matched by any other age group. The individual successes that students attain, be it reading their first book in Kindergarten, figuring out the steps in long division, or catching a ball and getting the congratulatory strokes from their classmates at recess, cause me great happiness. On difficult days I will often visit our four and five year old kindergartens as I know I will be unconditionally accepted and the children will want to show me all of the neat things they are doing. It is one of the great perks of my job.

Please feel free to call or e-mail me at any time to discuss our schools or to answer any other questions you might have regarding whatever is on your mind.(I have loads of opinions on politics, the Packers, Bucks and Brewers as well, that I am always willing to share.)

Sincerely,

John A. Hokenson
